Interesting Runner Data

rowsing the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run’s all-time searchable database (http://www.cballtimeresults.org)
Breveals a treasure trove of interesting runner data: finish line details for every runner since 1973 are available, as
are annual age group results. But the Top Charts tab is, perhaps, the most interesting—revealing lists of Top Streakers
(consecutive runs) and Top Finishers (most total runs/miles).

Here’s a sample of the data you’ll find:

Bennett Beach, 69, from Bethesda, Maryland, leads all Cherry Blossom finishers with a streak of 46 years and 460
miles run. Meanwhile, Peter Lunt, 69, from Alexandria, Virginia, has run the race 40 times between 1978 and 2018,
for a total of 400 miles. All told, 10 men have run the Ten Mile 30 or more times.

Betty Blank, 66, from Falls Church, Virginia, has the most ever finishes among women with 34, and has the longest
women’s streak with 27 consecutive races run between 1985-2011. Lizzie Zadoff, 69, from Washington, D.C., trails
Blank by just 10 miles in the top finishers category, while Marlene Cimons, 62, from Bethesda, Maryland, has the
second longest streak at 26 runs between 1981 and 2006. Three women have run the Ten Mile 30 or more times.

But membership in the Top Finishers or Top Streakers lists isn’t limited to just Ten Mile runners. Dixon Hemphill, 94,
from Fairfax Station, Virginia, has crossed a Credit Union Cherry Blossom finish line 30 times between 1978-2018,
having run the Ten Mile 22 times and the 5K seven times for a total of 245 miles.

And here are some interesting facts that aren’t so easily tallied: 1) there are 1,750 members of the 100-mile club, and they’ve
run a total of 236,217 miles, up from 1644 100-milers and 222,072 miles run prior to last year’s event, and 2) there have
been 197,704 unique finishers over the years, and 352,344 total performances.

Event Director Phil Stewart presents Ben Beach with his bib reflecting his status as the only runner to have completed 45
editions of the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler. He earned the bib number by finishing his 46 in a row on April 8, 2018.
